Rare Super Breyer Horses

If you have been searching for a Breyer horse, then you’ve come to the right place! In this article, I will share some information about the Snowbird, Nightmist, Palomino, and Nightmist’s MayDay Twister. You’ll be able to see all of the details that make these Breyers so special. The good news is that you can get a beautiful one without breaking the bank!

Palomino

When looking to purchase a rare model horse, consider purchasing a Palomino. This breed is highly sought after by horse enthusiasts, and its high quality makes it an ideal gift for any occasion. Originally produced as a hobby by the Breyer Animal Creations company, this horse now falls under the Reeves International company. This company specializes in the manufacturing of model horses made of cellulose acetate, and it also produces other animal models from the same material.

This model is traditionally sized (1:9). The artist who sculpted the horse was Chris Hess, who produced multiple versions and gift sets. The 1972 only version features a white spot around the right eye and a brown spot on the left eye. This blotchy eye was a problem for Kreger, who also had a history of severe depression and suffered from multiple neck surgeries.

The Palomino horse’s color is quite distinctive. Its mane is white. In addition, it has dark-colored skin and can display white. Though it’s often the focus of attention, it’s important to remember that the Palomino has actually been popular since ancient times. Their bright colors are often the subject of much speculation, and they have actually been around for thousands of years.

Nightmist

Breyer Animal Creations is primarily a manufacturer of model horses, but it’s now a division of Reeves International. The company makes model horses mainly of cellulose acetate material. In addition to horses, they produce other animals as well. You’ll find the company’s product line on eBay and at specialty shops. There are many different types of models to choose from. Listed below are some of the more popular ones.

The sculpted model of this legendary horse was based on the original image of Misty’s foal. While the model’s pattern is largely the same, the shades and shading vary slightly. The first two versions of the mare were matte; later, a glossy version was produced. This version is rarer than the matte version. While Nightmist is known for being the most popular Breyer horse ever, the original story behind her creation is not widely known.

The Misty mold is a portrait model of the horse made famous by the novel by Marguerite Henry. The model bears a round Breyer Molding Co. stamp, as well as a round “U.S.A.” mold stamp. The sculptor was Chris Hess, and the model is numbered 20. There are several ways to identify Misty’s colorway.

Snowbird

Snowbird is a Morgan stallion with striking blue and gold accents. His pearly grey coat and headdress are accented with feathers, rhinestones, and gold embroidery. His costuming is also dripping with indigo-colored gems. Added to his striking appearance is a belly inscription that reads: “Happy Holidays 2022.”

Nightmist’s MayDay Twister

Misty II, a daughter of Nightmist, is also represented by a Breyer model. This model was sculpted by Pamela du Boulay and is accurate to the real Misty. Nightmist was sculpted on a different mold and is often portrayed as a male. The markings on this model are quite accurate as well.

Breyer makes rare super brey horses. These models are so rare that collectors may not have a single one. This is the case with Nightmist’s MayDay Twister. Breyer may re-use the molds for several horses in a series, making each release slightly different. Some variations can be seen, however, such as the shape of the mane or tail.

Old Mold Proud Arabian Mare

There are many differences between a Family Arabian Mare and an Old Mold Proud Arabian Mare, or even an In-Between. Not understanding the difference can have devastating consequences. For example, while you can purchase a Gray Appaloosa Family Mare for twenty dollars, an Old Mold Arabian Mare can set you back one hundred and fifty dollars. And even then, you might have to do a bit of restoration on the old girl!

The first Proud Arabian Mare was released in 1956. She was sculpted by Chris Hess and Maureen Love Calvert. She is Breyer mold #215. The original mold, a version of which was offered for sale from 1956 to 1971, was a special run. However, the mold was recast in 1971 and included a flaw in the right foreleg. The left foreleg is under the mare’s leg and the face is more refined than the first mold. The Proud Arabian Mare has a limited production run, which makes them known as a Special Run.

Another variation of the Proud Arabian Mare is the in-between mare. This piece is extremely rare and was the transitional piece between the Proud Arabian Mare and the Family Arabian Mare. In the late 1950s, Chris Hess created a sculpt for a new Arabian Mare that never came to fruition. Though the new sculpt was rejected, the new model was eventually produced in mahogany, alabaster, and dapple grey colors.
